/ Shitty summary of this: samzdat.com/2017/06/01/the…
/ The poor (the non-elite people) live better than the kings of old, and it’s probably going to keep getting better if the world doesn’t fall apart.
/ The poor (the non-elite people) are (a) freaking out and (b) extremely angry.
/ The poor are not freaking out and extremely angry because of the possibility of the world falling apart per se.
/ So, why are they freaking out and extremely angry when they live better than the kings of old?
/ It's because being poor is becoming (a) ever-less-safe and (b) socially shitty.
/ In the past, social support networks protected people from the market.
/ But, now, (software-facilitated) markets are eating everything, including social support networks (via eating land/housing [cf analytics-backed/automated rentiering], labor [cf gig economy], money [cf fintech]).
/ This is shitty because @lou_keep : "human beings *want much richer social lives* than they can maintain under strict market conditions, and much of the reaction against market societies comes from that"
/ Now people are trying to use the market to give people social support (cf non-elites: dating apps, care.com, meetup.com, fetlife; cf elites: the welfare state, ACA/Obamacare),
/ but (re elite attempts) that doesn't work and ultimately breaks everything.
/ To repeat, @lou_keep : "human beings *want much richer social lives* than they can maintain under strict market conditions, and much of the reaction against market societies comes from that"
