July: DUP agreement up for renewal

July - August: Summer recess
If May escapes into summer recess she might be safe there, but she has to put a new Queen's speech in September.

There's a ghost of the 1930s in the Daily Telegraph. If you know your code.
It's that oily upper class familiarity with the far right. It was there in the 1930s, and it's there again now, a whiff of it.
In the 30s, maybe some upper class Englishmen, full of their own fart gas, thought they could use Hitler to insulate themselves against Communism, which is what really gave them nightmares.
And there's a shadow of it in the way the same stagnant old men - Blimpish, they were called - think they can use Nagel Farage and his far right bootboys to insulate themselves against Europe.

Yes.
First he blabbers on a bit about Fartage and the Tory leadership. Then he comes up with this:
"The next Conservative leader will have to announce that Britain will leave the European Union on October 31st without a deal, unless the European Union makes a better offer."
You see what I mean. The ignorance and sheer stupidity of this cannot qualify as journalism.
I don't care if he wants to leave the European Union.
But you can't divorce yourself from fact and call yourself a journalist.

You see. We've just seen it yet again. I don't know who he is. And elderly Englishman talking about the Irish border from a position of deep and crusted ignorance.
I'm afraid there is a real generational problem in this country. So many elderly men who are impervious to valid information.
Stagnant old men who are incapable of learning.
And he's just sat there telling everyone "we can do something on the Irish border"

This deep in the bone bigotry regarding foreigners. This inflated ignorance about fucking everything

Seems to me that PM is making it conditional on having to get through phase 1 that her general message it is
price she is prepared to pay and that the message of her team is that “this is national interest above personal interest”

A majority in this parliament needs to get to 320. It's been repeated so often that it has become a truth—that there is a majority for a soft Brexit in parliament.

Here's why that's almost certainly not the case.

Let's start with the Labour Party (245 MPs).

Soft Brexit is the position of the leadership (see JC letter to TM 6/2).

But there are at least 60 strong backers of a people's vote in the PLP & maybe 5 who want a harder Brexit.

So Labour brings max 180 MPs to soft Brexit.

Well, Scotland voted to Remain, and yesterday Sturgeon said: "preferably asking for a longer extension to put the issue back to voters".

So don't count on any SNP support for soft Brexit

First of all, the most obvious thing: Corbyn did this move not only because of a new Brexit strategy but above all because of a party strategy: the hemorrhage of moderate or outraged MPs had to be stopped somehow. The Independent group surely was concerning him. We’ll see.
Sure this move won’t stop the MPs shocked by the accusations of antisemitism, but it might have a good impact on the europhile ones. The new mantra is clear: until the choice is between May’s deal and No Deal, the new Labour weapon is a new, 2nd referendum.

- all-UK in a temporary customs Union
- Northern Ireland only in Single Market for goods, via devolution
- no checks GB-NI
