Let me fold this news into what I was just saying about capitalism and risk-taking in the pursuit of profit vs. socialist stagnation. If we rely on socialist idiots to manage the coming labor disruptions caused by AI, we are SCREWED.
The absolute worst thing we could possibly do, in the early years of a new automation revolution, is let a bunch of political ideologues and blinkered bureaucrats decide how to cope with all the "surplus" human labor created by machines.
Bureaucrats and left-wing ideologues see human beings as problems to be solved, crises as opportunities to exploit for political power. They have neither the ability nor incentives to find innovative solutions to labor disruptions. They'll just see 50 million new welfare cases.
You don't have to take my word for this. Just remember Barack Obama's ignorant blather about ATMs killing jobs. Yes, he was a desperate politician seeking excuses for his lousy economic record, but he also clearly believed what he was saying.
Socialists will treat the AI disruption as an all-you-can-eat buffet meal of political power, relentlessly attacking cruel employers and demanding trillion-dollar programs to "create jobs" and "expand the safety net." They'll demand Luddite measures to restrict technology.
That's what socialists do, by definition. They "socialize" costs. They believe the capacity of the American economy to absorb "socialized" costs is nearly infinite. Shortfalls are due entirely to greedy rich people refusing to "share" their wealth.
The AI disruption will strike the Left as an incredible opportunity to socialize massive costs - vast numbers of unemployed and underemployed people - with a windfall of political power and money for themselves as managers. They won't WANT to resolve such a lucrative crisis.
If you do want to resolve it, you're going to want a lot of smart people with money to invest and an appetite for risk-taking, ready to gamble their capital on new markets that will employ displaced humans and use automation to increase the value of their labor. /end
