On #NarasimhaJayanti, a short thread of some of my favourite Lord Narasimha icons. 🙏

Beginning with Hampi which was attacked by Muslim invaders.
The above image is from 1880. After restoration work by ASI, this is what it looks like now.

A constant reminder of how Dharma was attacked and how India was plundered!
Lord Narasimha in combat with Hiranyakasipu. From the 9th century Someswara Temple in Patteswaram.

Look at the eyes and legs locked!
Another 9th century Chola temple sculpture from Pullamangai in Thanjavur. 🙂🙏
उग्रं वीरं महाविष्णुं ज्वलन्तं सर्वतोमुखं   I

नरसिम्हम भीषणं भद्रं मृत्योऱ मृत्युं नमाम्यहम्   II

The fierce Lord Narasimha in the Chennakeshava temple in Belur, Karnataka. 🙏🙂
Another beautiful Hoysala masterpiece!

Lord Narasimha as a Shanta Murti...🙂🙏
Particularly love this Lord Narasimha from Vijayanagara era! So stylish with that left Kati hastam! Observe the Sudarshana and Panchajanyam on either side! 🙂🙏
This Lord Narasimha tearing through the pillar and emerging in Ahobilam! 🙂🙏

What a marvelous sculpture! All in one single slab in the pillar!
In Andhra Pradesh, the holy Nava Narasimha Kshetrams depicted in this beautiful illustration. I normally don't prefer putting images of Moolavars from any temples. This sketch has all the details of the nine different Lord Narasimhas. 🙂🙏
In Mangalagiri, the temple of Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy! Anyone who offers certain amount of Paanakam (Jaggery water), has their prayers answered. The Paanakam is poured into the mouth of the statue. At half, a gurgling sound emerges! An unsolved mystery till date! 🙏
This exquisite Shodashabaahu Narasimha Murty in the holy land of Mantralayam! 🙂🙏

This ancient Chatur baahu Lord Narasimha from Kashmir , standing with Sudarshana and Panchajanyam in his left hands and Paasham and Mace in his right hands. 🙏🙂

#NarasimhaJayanti
This ancient Lord Narasimha said to be either from Afghanistan or North Pakistan. Certainly a unique sculpture! 🙏🙂

This majestic larger-than-life standing Lord Narasimha in the Badami caves in Karnataka! 🙂🙏

This standing Lord Narasimha from Mathura region, mid-6th century. A sculpture made from mottled red sandstone.

Stolen from India and currently in Los Angeles County Museum of Art @LACMA. Time to bring him back to where he belongs! 🙏

This wonderful Lord Narasimha sitting casually with the Sudarshana in his right hand from Nagpur. Simply beautiful! 🙏 🙂

#NarasimhaJayanti
This Shanta Narasimha Swamy!🙏 😍 This is in Banavasi in Karnataka.

Seen here in the pic is the 35th Sringeri Jagadguru Abhinava Vidyathirtha Mahaswamiji performing Abhishekam to the Murty. 🙏
From Bharmour in Himachal Pradesh, this beautiful Lord Narasimha. He is probably leaning over a mace, which has been broken. The bottom of the mace is visible. 🙂🙏

#NarasimhaJayanti
There are many more like Simhachalam and Azhagiya Singaperumal.🙂

At sunset, there will be Abhishekam/ Thirumanjanam to Lord Narasimha.

In all the Shrivaishnava Kshetrams, they serve Paanakam and Neermorr in the true Tamil tradition, marking the onset of summers! 🙏🙂
Will end this thread here with a prayer. May Lord Narasimha protect all his Bhaktas! 🙏🙂
