This is a first. Activists in Idlib are organizing a march to the Turkish border (apparently around Atmeh) tomorrow to demand intl protection in the face of a deadly regime-Russian campaign. 250,000 humans have been displaced due to it. The Arabic calls for "breaking" the borders
Some in Idlib think they need to literally charge the border and attempt to dismantle the fortification to bring attention to their desperate situation. Others think the protest must remain non-confrontational. Either way, HTS has tight control over the border area.
The 3 million people in Idlib are essentially in a holding pen under intense indiscriminate airstrikes. Turkey has closed its borders (after generously admitting 3.6 million refugees). Turkish border guards now shoot at, deport & torture Syrians attempting to cross.

Only a couple of hundred Syrians attended the "March to the Borders" in Atmeh today, demanding international protection in front of Turkish border guards.
The low turnout stems from several factors according to locals. First: fear that Turkish border guards will open fire on them
2nd: Due to fears of antagonizing Turkey, no civil society org with resources supported organizing the protest.
3rd: Civilians in Idlib feel it's pointless to protest.
4th: Awful weather (36C/97F)+ Ramadan fast
5th: Confusion re: location of protest

Israel is going to elections because Netanyahu insisted on forming a far-right gov't, because it is crucial for him to pass a law shielding himself from criminal prosecution, or at the very least, have "loyal" partners who won't leave the coalition once he's indicted
Netanyahu could have formed a gov't with Blue & White, but such a coalition would not have passed Bibi's immunity law and B&W would have pulled out once Netanyahu is indicted, probably in a few months. Evidence against him is very strong.
B&W would have taken part in a unity government not headed by Netanyahu. He never considered that as an option. He fought hard to find the votes to dissolve the Knesset to avoid a scenario in which some other Likud MK becomes PM.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham released a new 13-minute video w/ segments from a long meeting Jolani held with several Syrian media activists.
The main goal was to push back against the widely held view that HTS isn't participating in battles/preventing others from joining the fight
Additional main points:
* In previous areas that fell to Assad, 70% fell through "reconciliation" and 30% through fighting. HTS launched a campaign to arrest those interested in "reconciliations" and prevented this.
* About 150 regime fighters were killed (fair assessment, imo)
The goals of the Russian-regime operation is to take over Sahel and Ghab & supposedly protect Hmeimim base. Other goal: to pressure European countries to give money for reconstruction by threatening Turkey & EU interests in displacing people to Turkey.

In the past 2 weeks, dozens of opposition fighters were killed trying to halt regime and Russian offensives in northern Hama, & Lattakia. The life story of a Omran al-Fares, killed this week in Hama, illustrates several points about the type of Syrians now fighting the regime
Omran was born in 2011 & raised in Houla in the northern Homs countryside. The town was subjected to one of the first major massacres by pro-regime militiamen & soldiers on May 25, 2012. 108 civilians were killed with artillery, mass executions & butchered with knives.
Omran's uncle was killed in the massacre. After the massacre, Houla, along with surrounding towns, was placed under regime siege that lasted for 6 years. That year, Omran, at the age of 11, stopped going to school.
