I am one of your adoring constituents. I have voted for you for decades. Nothing I am going to say in this thread will change the way I think about you.

But it is time, now, to say we are pursuing an impeachment inquiry. /1

Even if DOTUS suggests that you are after him personally, and even if ultimately the Senate doesn’t vote to convict, we must show the country that the Democrats in Congress stand for the rule of law. It’s really that simple.

About one-third of voters still support DOTUS. I believe some of them don’t have the full facts, but most of them don’t care and won’t listen to news that isn’t delivered to them through a familiar source. That’s okay, there are far more of us who do care, and who listen. /3

The ones who won’t listen will never vote with us.

But a good swath of potential Democrat voters do not understand the difference between the parties. They look at the micro-fractions of division among the left and cry foul at those in the center-left. / 4

They don’t understand that we on the left share basic values, which those on the right do not. This crowd likes the idea of unconventional politics. They laugh when we get upset. They may still believe a lot of the nonsense spread about HRC by the Russian bots. /5

They think the system is so broken, that they are willing to not participate in our democracy, because they believe it is futile.

We cannot enter the 2020 election year with those people believing that the Democrats in Congress are spineless. /6

Democrats need to stand up to DOTUS and his corruption.

Understand, I know you in the way a long-time constituent can. I know you appreciate activism. I know your agenda celebrates what my very-progressive friends also celebrate. /7

I know you know DOTUS is corrupt, and that there’s plenty of evidence of his having committed crimes.

(And am thrilled at your achievements. You made me so proud when you became the first female Speaker!) /8

(Last term, your filibuster for DACA kids was inspiring, I use a red high-heel emoji on Twitter - as the A in Nancy - sometimes, to tribute that day of outstanding orating, highlighting that important human dignity issue.)

But.
This is about impeachment now. /9

Of course, we need to open an inquiry but not proceed rapidly to a vote.

Hold hearings. Call every named witness in the Mueller report and make them state what they stated to the SCO and what they know. /10

Call the custodian of records of banks and inquire about DOTUS’s debt: the amounts, to whom it was sold, and what the repayment terms are. Show the American people the evidence through Congress’ investigatory power. /11

I know you are pursuing the courts, to get orders forcing compliance with the subpoenas that are being ignored. I’m a lawyer, I get it, this is a big deal issue and the House is on its strongest footing if subpoena enforcement is done with court approval. Awesome. /12

And we are winning. As we should be.

But please allow the enforcement to include actually *arresting* someone who disobeys after the court orders compliance. The American people need to see that Congress can enforce its orders. We need to show that its orders mean something. /13

Sadly - I’ve been a criminal defense lawyer my whole career and I cannot believe I am saying this - showing Congress enforcing its power means at least one subpoena disobeyer must be jailed, probably.

Saturate the news with this all summer long. /14

Take your time.

Let the youth of today grow up w/ memories of the whole summer being filled with Congressional hearings that go on interminably. They will learn something, as I did as a 11-12 yr old, when Watergate was going on. /15

When the vote is called, and the Senate finally gets their hands on this, the evidence will be massive. It will stain every Republican Senator who blocks this.

Lastly, thank you for all that you do for us, every day.
