I read the op-ed written by Chantal Hebert. Stewed for the day, read some of the comments, then read it again.

I have a different perspective after the second read.

I encourage everyone to re-read the article after your initial emotional reaction.
Hebert isn’t diminishing the report, at all. She’s telling readers to look past the word genocide and focus on the content.

She’s suggesting we look at the forest before arguing about what the type of trees are called.

Here’s her key argument.

Fourteen years ago I had a debate in a regional federal committee of indigenous women with a prominent Métis politician and activist, over this exact issue.

Could this tweet be more perfect to demonstrate that the values espoused by Sheer are fickle and hypocritical?

If every person has value in God’s eyes, then Trudeau and Muslims deserve equal value? No?
The unspoken qualifier from Scheers speech: some have more value than others in his God’s eyes, but all have value.

Those with less value are fair to target and discriminate against. That’s what freedom of religion means to Scheer and the faith he represents.
Focusing on the mention of God is a distraction. It’s what is implied by labeling everything as valuable, but behaviour indicates otherwise.

If all humans have value, equal value, then Michael Cooper would be expelled from the party.

It mystifies me how a reporter, obviously educated, & firmly entrenched in the middle class, complains about Liberals when his preferred party’s policies get called out for being unrealistic and potentially devastating to the economy.
He may want to remember that the middle class makes up more than half the electorate. They pay taxes, just like the working class, and yes, many have educations, much like himself, or he wouldn’t be employed.
The biggest difference is the ability to analyze policy using history & foresee the impact of implementation.

A centrist, sandwiched between both extremes on the left and right, is frequently the rational voice assuaging the disparate far fetched ideals of diehard demagogues.
