This is a key point. Speaking as a supporter of antitrust, I've agreed with some of Trump's actions but I don't trust his motives. He's using antitrust law as a weapon against companies he feels disrespect him. That's a grave threat to the rule of law. google.com/amp/s/gizmodo.…
Should we break up media? Yes. Should we break up tech? Yes again. Should we broaden enforcement beyond consumer prices and block vertical mergers that let corporations control their entire supply chain? Yes yes yes.

But Trump isn't the ally on these issues that he claims to be.
He went after AT&T because they tried to buy a cable network that criticizes him.

He went after Sinclair because the Fox News anchors he liked were scared of competition.

Now he's going after Google and Facebook because he believes they're somehow censoring him.
Antitrust law is supposed to be about what is good for the free market. It's supposed to be about preventing corporations from getting so large they can cheat customers, exploit workers and capture the political system.

It's not supposed to be about what hurts Trump's feelings.
And what's frustrating is that we *absolutely need* to talk about strengthening antitrust. Corporate consolidation is a massive driver of everything from the decline of unions to income inequality to public corruption.

I so badly WANT to call Trump right on this issue. He isn't.
