I’m standing outside Salisbury Cathedral and there’s a man bullshitting a woman about medieval history.

He’s literally using the few bits of knowledge he has to try and get laid.

I am staring at her and rolling my eyes like a mad woman👍

She looks bored stiff,I have hope

He’s just said that the Magna Carta was signed “here at this Cathedral”

She’s asked a question about women working on a building like this.

That was exhilarating.

Of course when I heard him, in answer to a question from her about women working on the Cathedral say,

“Yeah in those days, of course, women weren’t allowed to work”

I JUMPED in with a well-timed
“Wellllllll actually..”

I then very briefly (didn’t want to over-egg it) showed just how wrong the oaf was with all of his bullshit.

His face meanwhile was adopting a rictus-like grin and he was shallow breathing as she and I chatted about ALL the MEDIEVAL STUFF.

Ted (YES THAT WAS HIS NAME) didn’t like it when he asked me a question and I answered with
“That would be an ecumenical matter”
😂

In short I displayed to Kathy (that’s the girl) that Ted was an innate and unrepentant bullshitter and he got very, very quiet when I jumped in

I now have Kathy’s email (she’s asked for book recs-he didn’t) and as I keyed it into my phone we grinned at each other and then her and now pale, quiet Ted strolled away.

Ted will never spout medieval bullshit again for fear a raging medievalist lies in wait.
