THREAD: So @naval goes on @joerogan, talks trash about #basicincome & in response I share my article that counters his concerns & he blocks me. To be fair I said he doesn't know shit about UBI but it's true. He's a victim of the expert on everything trap.

So many points he makes in his @joerogan interview are just absurd. I also laughed out loud when he claimed that UBI is a slippery slope to socialism & then said universal services is the way to go. So Alaska is falling into socialism, & government services is market capitalism?
One of the dumbest things he says is that #basicincome is bad for entrepreneurship, and that all the entrepreneurs would flee. All the evidence is clearly in favor of UBI boosting entrepreneurship. It's capital, reduced risk, and consumer spending.

It's experts like @naval that piss me off so much. Don't think you know everything. Have some humility & don't be afraid to say "I don't know" when asked about something you haven't studied in depth. Yes, automation is real. The effects are all around us.

The more people who care about your opinion, the more important it is to make sure your opinion is well-informed and that you're not spreading misinformation and disinformation. With great influence, comes great responsibility. Don't make the world worse.

We don't have time for economic denialism. Many people are being left behind. The unemployment rate is as increasingly useless as GDP for measuring how well economies are doing. Insisting on targeting over universalism is idealistically well-meaning but realistically harmful.
I implore everyone reading this to look beyond your initial negative assumptions about what unconditional basic income is, how necessary it is right now or in the future, and what experts say for or against it. Give the subject time. Spend as many hours as you can spare on this.
I've been doing a lot of my own research into the topic of UBI for 6 years, and this thread is a good intro into the evidence but please don't stop there. Keep reading. Keep watching. Keep listening. It's too important not to.🖖

And for the love of all the gods ever, stop thinking UBI is too expensive. What matters is the net cost, not the gross cost, but most importantly, what's too expensive is the cost of not investing in society. It's cheap to end poverty & reduce inequality.

The question of whether we should embrace unconditional basic income is not a question of affordability.

It's a question of investment.

It's a question of morality.

It's a question of the collective will to lift society upward instead of watching it sink into self-destruction.
