1/5: The problem with “negotiations” with the #MaduroRegime is that the regime is divided into at least 3 rival camps, two of which have no interest in free elections. nytimes.com/2019/06/11/opi…
2/5: The hardline Cuban puppets like Maduro & Jorge & Delcy Rodriguez want to turn #Venezuela into another #Cuba. They will never agree to any steps towards democracy because it runs counter to the centralized economy & one party government they want to impose.
3/5: The insiders like Padrino,Cabello & El-Aissami care about 💰 not ideology. They want Maduro out because he is weak & incompetent. But they don’t want real democracy either. They want to replace him with an insider who will protect them & the central role of the military.
4/5: The PSUV politicians like Lacava & Hector Rodriguez also want Maduro out. This group may be open to negotiating elections because they believe they can personally win them & remain in office. But they don’t have any real power & can’t deliver on any deal they negotiate.
5/5: A negotiated transition to democracy would be ideal

But Maduro will never agree to elections

And while the Padrino/Cabello insiders know Maduro is losing the ability to protect their interests, negotiations will falter until they break with him & are open to free elections.
