That was a disaster! Attempt to take over the order paper defeated by 298 votes to 309. Any rogue incoming PM now has free rein to prorogue Parliament, and go full-on for no deal. MPs fluffed their biggest test. Party before country. Party before country. Party before country.
Just to be clear: there *might* be other things that MPs can do to stop no-deal, but this was their one absolutely guaranteed shot at taking the first step towards doing so.
If you're thinking "But 31 October is a long way off", consider this...
A) A huge chunk of time will be eaten up by the Tory leadership contest, summer recess and the Party Conference season.
B) Geoffrey Cox, the Attorney General, has said that proroging Parliament isn't illegal.
