👋Hi! @aaronsnow and @sboots here! We'll be taking over the CDS twitter account for the next 90 mins to answer your questions about #Roadmap2025.
ICYMI, you can read about it on our blog: bit.ly/2JsrNYX

So…#AMA here!

#GCDigital 4 CDS staff in person, and two online, with a sign that says
@aaronsnow @sboots Definitely agree. New Zealand has done some really impressive work on this (bundling together life events like a newborn child). apolitical.co/solution_artic…

Here's their online service, SmartStart! smartstart.services.govt.nz Definitely a great source of inspiration.
@aaronsnow @sboots @teh_aimee 1/2 We're still working on that! :D The #Roadmap2025 was meant to kickstart a conversation, based on what we've learned from our work with departments so far.

We're really excited about the feedback we're getting from inside and outside government...
2/2 ... The services we've worked on so far are here – digital.canada.ca/products/ – but this is just the beginning. We're looking forward to helping deliver more end-to-end services that impact people across Canada.
@aaronsnow @sboots 1/2 @Wikisteff Totally. This comes up in almost every conversation with departments working to deliver digital services. @18F and @USDS's login.gov is a great example of this done well: 18f.gsa.gov/2017/08/22/gov…...
2/2 Our colleagues here in @TBS_Canada's Office of the CIO have been doing some really interesting research in this area – shout-out to @trbouma @ibash_10 and their team!
@aaronsnow @sboots 1/2 @matthewdarwin One of our goals is to "make the good path the easy path" by building tools for developers working in government. @GOVUK's platform teams are a big inspiration...
2/2 ... You can see the tools we've built so far here, to improve the digital service delivery process: digital.canada.ca/platform/ We're just getting started!
1/3 @AliFeroz_GC This is a must-have, for all public servants. We've written before about how equipping public servants with the tools they need (and letting them choose those tools!) is essential: digital.canada.ca/2018/06/27/too…...
2/3 ...Our @TBS_Canada colleagues – @ibash_10 @LivNeal @AlexBenay – have done fantastic work to make open access to online tools the default, instead of the exception. open.canada.ca/en/blog/enabli… ...
3/3 ...There's a great @GOVUK blog post about this from 2015: Choosing technology that is “at least as good as people have at home”. That's our goal for the public service in Canada too: cabinetofficetechnology.blog.gov.uk/2015/02/12/cho…
@twitrnick You should chat with @boardom_ca, our head of security and reliability engineering. We like the way you think. :)

And, @TheMightyWeasel from @DigiAcademyCAN had a great tweet about this yesterday:
1/2 @mgifford We're really lucky to have @JuliannaRowsell leading our accessibility efforts here at CDS and helping us stay connected to the #a11y community. digital.canada.ca/2019/02/13/bui… ...
2/2... At CDS we build accessibility into all our work, every sprint. We also have tools to flag accessibility issues for our developers every time they make code changes, to make sure it's always top of mind: github.com/cds-snc/github… Make the right thing the easy thing!
1/2 @JStanghini I think the best defense against churn (personnel or otherwise) is to be evidence-driven. It's hard to argue with proof that what you're doing is helping users...
2/2 ... Centralized or not, most decisionmaking about product development should be in the hands of the team that's developing the product and engaging with its users.
1/2 @samperd Our focus at CDS is on public-facing services. Better internal government services are really critical too.

We're lucky to have folks like @DigiEnablement (home of the GCtools team) and others working to empower public servants with better tools...
2/2 ...@TammyLabelle65 at @PSPC_SPAC also has a team of @code4ca fellows that will be working to redesign the government travel experience:
.@mgifford 10x is a big inspiration for the Accelerator that we're beginning to set up: digital.canada.ca/2019/05/02/wer…

There's a lot we can learn from how teams in the US and UK have championed #OpenSource approaches at scale!
1/2 @mgifford There's been some progress on this, but it's definitely in pockets. External public wifi (with unfiltered access to the internet) is definitely a must for public servants...
2/2 ...Like you said, it would make life easier for people visiting and working with government too! digital.canada.ca/2019/02/06/get…
. @mgifford Great question about an important priority. I know our colleagues at @SSC_CA are doing great work in this area:
.@StevieRayTalbot Go Raps! Even if I weren't in Canada now, I'd be rooting for them -- I grew up in Cleveland. Anybody But Golden State! 🏀
@aaronsnow @sboots 🙏 Overwhelmed by & grateful for the thoughtful questions. What a great convo!

@aaronsnow & @sboots signing off from this #AMA, but the @CDS_GC DMs are always open! 👋
