America can overthrow Iran with ease says guy who totally got Iraq right
we keep recycling the same psychopaths from Reagan and Bush, can they just not find any youthful war-pushing hacks, is there no FDD bench with mini-John Boltons or Alex B Keaton armchair warrior types

PBS also has on Gerecht to discuss Iran, presents him as sober neutral expert. Doesnt mention FDD is funded by far right pro-Israel ideologues w/ deep ties to the Trump admin. Doesnt mention Gerechts joked about bombing Iran or that he got Iraq 100% wrong
The other guest is Vali Nasr a former state dept employee. Both he & Gerecht agree Iran carried out the tanker bombing despite neither having access to any evidence. This is how consensus for war is rushed & cemented: two options “debate” how best to punish the Guilty Party.

Shreveport, LA just repealed its extremely racist 12yo law banning saggy pants after police shot a black man in Feb who ran while being stopped for wearing saggy pants.

The man was allegedly armed & after being shot 8 times by police, allegedly shot himself (?). Normal country.
*shot AT 8 times, only three actually hit him just to clarify

Reminds me of how the NYT editorial board the day after the ‘02 Venezuela coup justified their endorsement of it by saying Chavez killed protestors, then two weeks later—after Chavez had been reinstated—the NYT quietly reported the snipers who fired first were from the opposition
Like all war fervors the reporting on Venezuela has been hysterical and in sync w/ pro-US NatSec orthodoxy. Reporters largely see themselves as advocates for the opposition while everything the govt does is rounded up to the most ungenerous and cartoonishly evil reading of events

This is an object lesson in NYT editorial mealy-mouthed liberal imperialist sophistry. It advocates every single axiom of regime change insisting Maduro “must go” but handwrings about a potential civil war. Like, what do they think is being threatened? nytimes.com/2019/02/05/opi…
NYT did the same line in iraq 2003 and Syria 2013: this bad regime “has to go” through some mysterious force (we won’t say what) but, uh, let’s overthrow the entire state and military apparatus.....wokely. Total nonsense. Total liberal sleight-of-hand in support of Trump.
The NYT wants regime change via CIA proxy force, cruise missiles or internal military coup but, oh no, not a WW2 style invasion. No this is somehow Too Far. The range of debate isn’t “US-imposed coup vs no US-imposed coup” it’s “what flavor of US-imposed coup would you like”

“Iran Disinformation Project” website says it was launched in 2018 and is funded by @StateDept Global Engagement Center to expose disinformation coming from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
