#Iran has obviously not fully considered #Russia. Russia does not want a war between #Israel and #Iran in #Syria. So the Russians are now trying to mediate between the two nations. Russia has too much at stake in Syria. #SyriaStrikes #middleeast #tcot #ccot
#War between #Iran and #Syria would draw the #UnitedStatesOfAmerica into the fight and that would be a disaster for #Russia. Believe it or not, Russia does not want to tangle militarily with the US or Israel in Syria. #SyriaStrikes #middleeast #tcot #ccot
Scenario 1:
#Iran will launch another strike but it may come from #Hezbollah in #Lebanon or #Hamas in #Gaza. Or it could be another attack from #Syria into #Israel. My guess is that it will be a #terrorattack. #SyriaStrikes #middleeast #tcot #ccot #airstrike

Get the message, #Iran: #Israel will hammer you every time.

The #airstrikes into #Syria demonstrates #Israeli resolve to not allow Iran to establish military bases, facilities, or conduct activities near the border.

It should be pretty clear by now- since #Israel has launched at least a hundred strikes into #Syria in the last seven years- that every time they have felt threatened by #Iran, the #Israeli's will take decisive action. #SyriaStrikes
#Iran is determined to position themselves to be able to deal a devastating blow to their hated enemy, #Israel, from bases in #Syria. Their view is that they have helped the #Assad regime with their #civilwar and now it is payback time. #SyriaStrikes

On why #SyriaStrikes are such fertile ground for Russia. 👇
The Kremlin is an adversary that thrives on confusion, uncertainty, doubt. Syria is a complex battlefield - peculiarly fertile for dispute and disinformation. Stumbled on it by chance, but pleased to have done so.
So: have the v small number of US/UK/FR airstrikes against the regime degraded and disrupted its WMD capability? Unclear. Maybe. Scattering assets prob deepest effect.

Thread: A few thoughts on the Pentagon's claim of a "2000% increase in Russian trolls."

First point: it takes quite a lot of evidence to identify a genuine Kremlin troll. Examples in this post:

medium.com/dfrlab/trolltr…
I had a look at traffic on the @DeptofDefense handle from 0800 ET on April 13 to 0800 ET on April 14, using @Sysomos.

Note the surge around 2100, when the strikes were announced. It's about a 1400% increase in traffic. Image
But most of the traffic was driven by retweets of the Pentagon's own posts. Of the 10 most retweeted posts, 6 were from DoD. Image

THREAD: Body Language Analysis No. 4261: President Trump's Address regarding the Retaliatory Strike on Syria - #Nonverbal & #EmotionalIntelligence • • #DonaldTrump #SyriaStrikes #ChemicalWeapon #BodyLanguage #EmotionalIntelligence #Syria #EQ
1/ On 14 April 2018, the United States, United Kingdom, and France carried out a coordinated retaliatory military air strike against the Syrian government.
2/ This act was in response to the chemical weapons attack the Syrian forces perpetrated upon their own people on 7 April 2018 in Douma. The Syrian government has denied they carried out this mass-poisoning and have called the retaliation a violation of international law.

Thread: the different claims on the #SyriaStrikes (state of play at 2200 UTC, April 14).

medium.com/dfrlab/syriast…
The basic claim from the US, France and UK was that they targeted three sites, one at Barzah in greater Damascus, two at Him Shinsar, west of Homs.

They said all were directly related to the chemical weapons programme.

(Map by US DoD) Image
The @DeptofDefense briefing showed before-and-after imagery of the sites it named. Thanks to stars like @JakeGodin and @vpkivikami, they've been geolocated and checked against satellite imagery.

This is the Barzah site, 33.558419, 36.316080. Image

1. At the risk of trying to bring some nuance to Twitter, what follows is a #thread on U.S. law vis-a-vis the war powers, and why the legality of the #SyriaStrikes as a matter of U.S. law (to say nothing of int'l law) is both far from certain and revealing of far deeper problems:
2. Let's start from first principles. For uses of military force to be lawful as a matter of U.S. domestic law, the authority to use such force must stem either from an Act of Congress or from the President's powers under Article II of the Constitution.
3. As the government has already implicitly conceded, no statute authorized these strikes.

Although both the Obama and Trump administrations have relied upon the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (#AUMF) to use force _in_ Syria, those strikes were against #ISIS.

I’m seeing a lot of mixed thoughts about the #SyriaStrikes. Most of them are incoherent and not very level-headed. Here is my humble attempt at the opposite.

War and bombs are not part of God’s vision for the Kingdom, but we live in the “already, not yet” /1
so there has to be a place for military might to be used appropriately. I believe that a military intervention in #Syria could bring stability back to the country, ending the killing of innocents and allowing refugees to return home to rebuild. /2
But, of course, real life is always more complicated than that. The struggling factions in Syria (ISIS, Assad, & rebels) have all used civilians as pawns or shields at one time or another. A successful western military intervention that ends the civil war and /3

This is NOT recent footage of the #SyriaStrikes, but recycled footage from May *2013* from an alleged Israeli airstrike on the Jamraya Research Center in Damascus.
This video is being shared countless of times as showing today's #SyriaStrikes in Damascus, but guess what? It's not — the footage shows shelling in the Ukrainian city of Luhansk in February 2015.
This video is being shared many times too, claiming to show today's #SyriaStrikes on the Jamraya Research Centre in Damascus. The footage does appear to show that location, but not in 2018 — this was broadcast in May 2013 after an alleged Israeli strike.

Immediately following the chemical attack in #Douma, Syria, the usual suspects are lining up to push the theory that it was a false flag.
This isn't the only time in the last couple of months we've seen "false flag" theories pushed in the wake of a chemical attack. In one case, the prime suspect is Assad's government, a Russian ally, and in the other the Russian government itself.
We downloaded recent tweets containing the hashtag #FalseFlag; the majority are related to the attack in Syria. 1744 of 1950 (89%) of the accounts involved also have #Novichok tweets on their timelines.
