Persecution creates identity. The more a group is targeted for who they are, the more *aware* they are of who they are, and of the institutional racism against them. The response is almost always to grab on to their identity even more.
I am not aware of any modern group identity that was wiped out through persecution. What melts one's group identity is when it doesn't matter any more, when it becomes painless, colorless, even boring. Not when it's a screaming, burning wound in the center of your soul.
And those two tweets are my response to those morons and racists who think that, if they just repress and crush Palestinians a little bit more, they can get them to give up on their being Palestinian. Not only are you racists, you're also idiots.
