THREAD: If you think the #CitizenshipQuestion fight is over, it's not. The Supreme Court may have blocked the question for now from #2020Census forms, but let me walk you through my latest reporting👇

2. A majority of Supreme Court said they're keeping #CitizenshipQuestion off #2020Census for now bc Trump admin's use of Voting Rights Act as justification "seems to have been contrived." But court leaves open possibility of Trump admin trying again👇

3. It's not clear if Trump admin will try again for #CitizenshipQuestion.

On Thursday, President Trump said he's asked "the lawyers if they can delay the Census, no matter how long" until #SCOTUS "can make a final and decisive decision."

This weekend👇

4. I'm watching to see what happens Monday in the #CitizenshipQuestion lawsuits in Maryland. Justice Department attorneys representing the Trump administration are set to tell admin plans to U.S. District Judge George Hazel👇

5. I'm also watching to see if the printing of #2020Census paper forms starts Monday, when the @uscensusbureau has said printing was scheduled and budgeted to begin for 1.5 billion pieces of paper census materials, including this many questionnaires👇

6. ICYMI, as recently as last Tuesday, the Trump administration told the Supreme Court how important it is to finalize whether or not #2020Census forms will include a #CitizenshipQuestion by today (June 30)👇

7. You may have heard about the possibility of pushing back #2020Census printing until Oct. 31. It's important to point out that @uscensusbureau officials said that could happen only with "exceptional effort and additional resources"👇

8. "It's not just a matter of putting ink on paper," printing consultant Leo Raymond of @MailersHub tells me. Delays in #2020Census printing could make getting the job done even more difficult. There could be unexpected shortages in workers or materials.

9. By the way, delaying the constitutionally mandated #2020Census could jeopardize @uscensusbureau's ability to produce legally required state population counts by December 2020, which would disrupt the scheduled redistribution of congressional seats and Electoral College votes.
10. Delaying the #2020Census would also likely drive up the cost of what's already expected to be the most expensive census in U.S. history at an estimated $15.6 billion. More from @USGAO👇

11. Another thing I'm watching for: what Commerce @SecretaryRoss instructs the @uscensusbureau to do with the existing government records on citizenship that Ross told the bureau to compile from other agencies👇

12. Who said the #2020Census would be sleepy reporting beat?
