I don't care how far left the Democrats move, I will still vote for the Democratic nominee over Trump. The only question is what philosophy will gain the maximum number of electoral votes. Not yet clear to me what that is.
Keep in mind that no matter how "moderate" the Democratic nominee is, he or she will be painted by Fox and the rest of the right-wing echo chamber as far, far left. I think someone who is actually a lefty might be better at parrying these charges than a moderate.

The idea that Social Security benefits will be slashed the minute the trust fund goes dry is rank nonsense. It would take less than a day to pass legislation to use general revenues to maintain SS benefits. nytimes.com/2019/06/12/bus…
The Social Security trust fund is economically meaningless. It's simply budget authority allowing general revenues to pay benefits. We could costlessly add a billion trillion dollars to the trust fund to keep it going forever. Just create money out of thin air. This isn't MMT.
All the hand-wringing among the chattering class is rank bullshit, attempts to create a bandwagon for slashing benefits now to pay for more Republican tax cuts.

Wall Street Journal (news section of course): The South's Trumpian economic policies are holding it back. wsj.com/articles/the-s… No surprise. It's been our poorest region forever. (Bottom line of graph.)
This important chart contradicts all of right-wing economic theory. The South has long had the lowest taxes, least regulations, smallest government spending on roads, education & health of any region. This was the direct result of a racist philosophy of denying aid to minorities.
By contrast, the liberal Northeast has long been our most prosperous region despite high taxes, larger governments and a much more tolerant attitude toward minorities (including religion & sexual orientation). I have never heard a right-wing economist explain how this can happen.

Why Democrats are losers.
Democrats operate on the Golden Rule--they think if they treat Republicans decently then Republicans will treat them decently. But Republicans always treat them like dirt; lie, cheat, steal, do whatever it takes to win without qualms, shame or consequences. Not a fair fight.
Republicans are Darth Vader. Democrats are Mr. Rogers.
