My goodness me. A £183.39m potential fine for British Airways. A monster fine which isn't even the highest which could be levied (can go up to 2% of worldwide annual revenue).

Can't help but feeling that this is all building up enforcement against the internet giants. Facebook's annual revenue currently $55bn...
Also, bear in mind that the ICO has a two stage process. This is stage one, where the company has an opportunity to make further representations. Expect BA to robustly respond, and then probably challenge in the courts (given the size of the fine)

This is just the kind of thing that Jonathan Sumption was talking about his 3rd Reith Lecture - there isn't a huge distance between him and what Pompeo is proposing. Essentially, strip out rights which are 'controversial'. downloads.bbc.co.uk/radio4/reith20…
Why should this be fought? Because our rights protect us from the state, the are supposed to exist above politics and constrain the worst excesses of partisanship and populism. Always beware politically slanted commissions bearing gifts

ARGH my bike was stolen today. Help:
(1) I cycle into work, about 15 miles round trip. I have always had a 'city bike', i.e with straight handlebars. Should I get a racing bike? Any recommendations for an inexpensive one?
(2) What lock should I get which isn't crazy expensive?
Here's what the absolute *@£%$@£$@£$ did to my lock. I realise it isn't a great lock but I have had it for about 5 years without it getting stolen
Also, please don't recommend anything which is going to cost more than about £250-300, perhaps 2nd hand! As much as I would love to buy a £3,000 bike it ain't going to happen

The deep irony here is the constructive ambiguity in this non disclosure agreement is likely to have a chilling effect, discouraging employees from whistleblowing, which is exactly why EHRC said these shouldn't exist and why Labour agreed with them! (ht @OzKaterji @RaynerSkyNews)

Some of you may have noticed that I'm sporting a new tag in my screen name. It's not just a fad though, allow me to explain in this lil ol' #thread:
1/ As you (should) know, january 3rd marks the actual birthday of #Bitcoin, as it was the day that Satoshi mined the first blocks and hence set the Bitcoin story into motion. Upcoming jan 3rd will be the 10th anniversary and this would be an obvious time for celebrations.
2/ @TraceMayer took the initiative of a call-to-arms for all HODLers-of-last-resort, to join him and quite a few other prominent bitcoiners like @giacomozucco, @theonevortex and @CaitlinLong_, just to name some, and also sport the same tag in their screen name.
