You need to read this post about how @AndrewYang's campaign deradicalized someone that so many others just want to either write off or further radicalize. Not left, not right, forward, means bringing people back out of the depths of destructive hate.

I see a debate between Dems who believe white voters no longer matter and the focus should be on people of color, and the GOP who believe only white people matter. Meanwhile Yang is saying this goes deeper than color. There are Americans being driven into extremism by scarcity.
Instead of writing off those who voted for Trump as racist hate-mongering deplorable bigots, let's put a floor under them. Let's put resources into their hands. Let's end their daily survival stress so they can breathe freely, because existential anxiety is the enemy, not color.

THREAD: It's amazing how @RashidaTlaib's plan which would give every adult earning less than $50k a $250/mo boost is rightfully seen as very progressive by progressives but those same progressives can cry neoliberal at @AndrewYang's plan that would boost the same people the same?
Example: If someone on SNAP + SSI is getting $750/mo right now, and they choose the $1k/mo Freedom Dividend instead, their incomes get boosted by $250/mo. They also gain full control over the foods they buy. Rashida's LIFT+ would be the same boost, but maintain SNAP's control.
So why is it more progressive to boost incomes of those on welfare, but in a way that maintains control and maintains high marginal tax rates on earned income? Is that what progressive means to you? Is progressivism defined as paternalistic control and punishment of employment?

Okay, #YangGang, listen up, because I asked @AndrewYang about this detail. When it comes to disability, there are essentially two programs: SSDI and SSI. The former is contribution-based and the latter is income-based. SSDI will exist on top of the Freedom Dividend. SSI will not.
If you have a disability ♿ and you're among the 20% of that population receiving 💵 because of it, here's how Yang's UBI could affect you: Let's say you're receiving $1,300 in SSDI right now + $500 in SSI + $100 in SNAP. Opting into the FD would mean $2,300/mo instead of $1,900.
This is an important design detail because the average SSDI payment for disabled workers is $1,235/mo, and the average SSI payment is $566/mo. Stacking the larger payment and replacing the smaller payment means Yang’s Freedom Dividend is a *net boost* for most with disabilities.

Isn't a job guarantee such a royally great idea?

Doesn't it make SO MUCH SENSE that a bunch of supposed socialists are pushing for the commodification of intrinsically-motivated caring labor? What better way to beat the hated gatekeeper "capitalists" than to become them, right?
Making just about *anyone* do just about *anything* makes him/her less interested in doing the activity in question.

This is why I see the movement for self-directed education and the movement for universal basic income as one in the same.

When I was a teenager, I sometimes was told, "wash the dishes."

I was more often told, "it would be a big help if you'd wash the dishes."

Carer poverty is increasing - as the benefit system is devastated; as care charges increase exponentially, as carers are forced to leave work to care, many find themselves struggling to afford the basic and subsidising care costs and paying for equipment.

Carer health is suffering - mental health, anxiety, physical pain, putting off their own health checks, often because there is no support to allow them to do this. Emergency planning to take account of carer needs/wellbeing is patchy at best.
#realcarersweek 3/ Where is the future planning? How are we planning for the future of disabled children and adults who may outlive their immediate family? The greatest fear of carers is what happens if they are no longer there to care for our loved ones.
