Today may have been my last appearance before the EU courts as an English barrister. (Acting for the Commission in one of the air cargo cartel appeals.) If Johnson crashes us out, my next appearance may be as a member of the Bar of Ireland.
My own small example of the loss caused by Brexit to both the U.K. and the EU: both have gained immeasurably from the involvement of U.K. advocates and judges at the EU courts and in the development of EU law.
(My opponent, a distinguished Irish barrister, was kind enough to welcome me to the Irish Bar - a welcome that I have found to be universal.)
