Trump is in Eastern NC to rally his base tonight. But his policies have hurt the poor & low wealth people of this area. Hospitals have closed in Eastern NC b/c of GOP’s refusal to expand Medicaid. His supporters in our state house have hurt Eastern NC.
Talk about racism: Trump tried to put a known white supremacist, Tom Farr, on the federal bench in Eastern NC. Sen Tim Scott had to step in to stop him.
Trump has a campaign goal to win the South. Dems should have a strategy too. NC is not a red state; we have won against extremism in NC. The population demographics show that turn out can change NC & the South.

Every time America has done this, it was wrong. Operation Wetback was wrong 55 yrs ago. Trump’s deportation & asylum denial is wrong today. Now or 55 yrs ago, the rejection of Hispanic immigrants is rooted in white nationalism.
The lies & the myths of white nationalism must be challenged by a movement that brings black, brown, white & Native together to deal w/ the realities of poverty. We can’t let lies pit us against each other. We must challenge Trump & his enablers, but they are just the symptom.
We must challenge the lie of white nationalism that America has never fully and deeply faced—the myth that gave rise to Trumpism. We cannot say “we’ve never seen this before” or that any one president can solve it.

In 1963 George Wallace spewed his racist hate rhetoric & policies. By Sept racists emboldened by him were blowing up children in churches. President Trump is lying & spewing his racist hate rhectoric & policies. Now we have a mass shooter in El Paso. This has to stop.
Those who legitimize this racist hate & refuse to stand up to the President are enablers emboldening the perpetrators of hate crimes.
If politicians call this shooter sick & senseless but refuse to call their own racist rhetoric and hate policies—their own refusals to provide reasonable gun control—sick & senseless, then their outrage is no more than sound & fury signifying nothing.

As I wrote a few weeks ago for @damemagazine, 2020 won't be about one term, but two. Any Democrat running for 2020 must be prepared to be an incumbent for 2024. Sanders will be 83 going in.

The reality that neither Bernie nor Biden wants to face is how neither of them looks all that different from Trump on a debate stage. But the counterbalance between Trump and a woman, especially one 20yrs his junior, would be incredibly stark.
