RE all these claims "Everyone said there'd be a deal during the euref", can anyone pt to a single intervw in which a leading Leave campaigner promised there'd be a legally binding Treaty on money, citizens' rights, the Irish border, non-regression & GIs before we'd try to leave?
You see, *I* recall folk saying that we'd do a free trade deal & be outside the Customs Union & Single Mkt - which we will. But I don't recall anyone promising securing a Withdrawal Agreement from the EU - permission & blessing to leave - before we departed.
And if there *wasn't* a single interview in which any leading official Leave campaigner promised a Withdrawal Agreement (& I'm not certain, but I'll bet there wasn't), how can the media get away with pretending "Everyone said or assumed there'd be a Withdrawal Agreement Treaty"?
In fact, the idea only needs to be stated to be obviously preposterous: "You're saying...that everyone assumed...we'd only leave the EU if we got the EU's permission & blessing for doing so, & that if the EU objected then we'd Remain? That *that's* what Leavers voted for??"
I for one never assumed during the euref we'd be required to make a Withdrawal Agreement Treaty in order to Leave the EU, I never recall anyone saying we'd hv to hv one, I never knew any Leave voter who assumed that's be necessary & if you'd asked me I'd hv said it was a bad idea
I think the claim "Everyone assumed during the euref that there'd be a Withdrawal Agreement" is patently untrue, indeed so obviously untrue as to be ridiculous. I don't see why so many folk in the media & politics hv bn allowed to get away with claiming it.
