More Old Bailey Sophistry from Codpiece Cox admitting that in order that today's vote is NOT an attempt to repeat #MV2 (to comply with Speaker Bercow's re-iteration of 1604 convention) it is also NOT a #MV in sense of #EUWA18 Section 13.1.b

Attempt by Codpiece Cox to scare House into voting in a #MeaninglessVote for #WA (only) solely to secure the offered (actually only technical) extension of #BrexitDay from Apr 12 to May 22 sans guarantee of any other extension. Sophistry.

#BBCpc #EUWAdebate #VictoriaLIVE #LBC
Of course, if the House falls for Codpiece Cox's scare tactics, none of this will figure in future utterances by #TheresaMay's #Brexihadis - the headlines will scream 'Parliament approves #Brexit arrangements' (sans qualification or caveat).

The Order Paper for today's vote, including the text of #TheresaMay's contentious non-#EUWA18-Section-13.1.b-compliant motion:

Bear in mind HMG could have drafted a motion compliant with BOTH Speaker's ruling AND #EUWA18 Section 13.1.b and thus secured ratification of its #WA AND #PD (eg, by tabling a motion requiring a confirmatory #PeoplesVote).

Ser Bill Cash (as chair of the EU scrutiny select committee ) is now speaking and agreeing with a Tory called Bacon (should change it by deed poll to Gammon) that EU law should not be superior to UK law.

#BBCpc #VictoriaLIVE #LBC
#EUWAdebate #Brexit #Tories
EU law is superior to UK law (indeed to law of all 28 EU states not just UK, and has been since 1957) for a good reason. Nowt would work if any and every EU state could flout it.

What use the UK if Kent law were superior to UK law?

#BBCpc #VictoriaLIVE #LBC
#EUWAdebate #Brexit
Of course superiority of EU law ONLY APPLIES where treaties agreed by EU states have conferred that right (or competence) on the EU. EU is ruled by law and powers conferred by treaty, which is why #Tories fail to understand it.

#BBCpc #VictoriaLIVE #LBC
#EUWAdebate #Brexit
For a 'constitutional expert' (from #JRM's mould?) Bill Cash often prefers dogma to law. In law, Parliament created an ADVISORY not decisive referendum - an opinion poll. No-one has ever claimed they "won" an opinion poll.

Motion before the House on approving (but not ratifying) the #WA but not the #PD was drafted to comply with Speaker Bercow's 1604 ruling but is duplicitous - if approved, #WA requires #PD be honored!

Iain Dunkin Sith is talking about EU 'competence' (a different legal meaning wrt to EU's areas of responsibility).

Wrt #Tories in UK govt, 'competence' has its broader meaning and is usually prefixed with 'in-'.

On reflection on the erudite sophistry of the Attorney General, Codpiece Cox: his entire speech opening the #EUWAdebate today was an attempt to instill #Torschlußpanik (Gate-closure-panic) in the hearts of MPs, @MrJamesOB.

The Giant Redwood did not look particularly pleased to hear that Dominic Grieve agrees with him, that #TheresaMay's #WAdeal is nowhere near any of the #Brexit fantasies promised the British public during the #EUref campaign.

'Do you want to frustrate the Will of the People?' a sour-gammon-faced Shires Tory asks Wera Hobhouse MP.

It seems the Commons is full of frustrated Tory men...

Commons Library praised at the start of today's #WAdebate by producing briefings for debates at very short notice forced by this govt's lack of foresight.

Gosh! Ser Christopher Chope has just strung two sentences together already in stating he will vote against #TheresaMay's #WAdeal today.

Normally he confines his Commons utterances to a laconic 'Object!'

Rebecca Pow! reminds Labour that it stood at #GE17 on a manifesto of honoring the result of the #EUref. Perhaps she should make the same point to her PM, #TheresaMay, whose #WA, many argue, fails to honor that result

Sad fact now evident in listening to this #EUWAdebate (PM's substitute for a #MV3 disallowed by Speaker Bercow for breaching the 1604 convention): the actual #WA's already debated-unto-death; MPs now debating May's degree of duplicity.
