On my way to my 1st ever @Conf_of_Pres meeting, which is focused on Anti-Semitism. COP brings together leaders of major Jewish orgs as a way to leverage impact in the US & Israel. What messages do you want me to share w/ this group? What issues do you wish we were addressing?
11/13 morning speakers are men, including all “experts”. I know plenty of experts on antisemitism who are women and will plan to share that with COP.
In the meantime, would love to see the men from the experts panel commit to only speaking on future panels that include women. @IrwinCotler @JGreenblattADL @DavidHarrisAJC, what do you say?
In breakout sessions now. They are off the record, so I won’t share specifics, but the topics are: the Next Generation, Political Arena & Elections, Dangers & Opportunities in Social Media, Lessons from European and other communities, College campus and BDS, & Building Coalitions
The first one I attended had four male panelists and a male moderator. Women in the room brought up the intersection of the issues we were discussing with gender identity and other identities and brought up an ask for more diversity including Jews of color. 🙌
.@NCJW President, Beatrice Kahn speaks about forming coalitions! 🙌🙌🙌
Closing reflections-

PROs-
✅diverse organizations in the room speaking respectfully about their plans to combat antisemitism & learning from each other
✅coalition building session that gave concrete examples of addressing this issue in deep partnership with others
CONs
❌diversity diversity diversity (there wasn’t enough in the room, on panels, or as presenters)
❌”Manels”- I attended two panels of all men, ie: manels
❌starting assumptions on relationship between anti-Zionism and antisemitism
Thanks for following along, friends! I brought up as much as I could from your tweets, including a need for racial diversity, framing interfaith marriage positively, a call for gender diversity, need for gun legislation, and white supremacy as a root cause. 🙌
In case you are wondering, I ended my day with my sheroes, @ruth_messinger and Barbara Dobkin. We debriefed my CoP experience, chatted about reproductive health rights and @NCJW, and discussed women’s equity in Jewish orgs. Perfect way to end the day! 🙌 #LadyBoss
For those following this thread, you can watch the opening “manel” live on tv tonight. Afterwards, tweet at @JBSTVORG, the men on the panel and @Conf_of_Pres to ask if they’ll commit not to be on, plan, or broadcast panels of all men in the future. 🙌
