While I was in #Odisha, it was fascinating to spend time with the potters of Goudaguda village in #Koraput. There are about 20-30 potters in the colony and it’s possible to watch them at work. This is the start of the #pottery process, mixing up the clay.
This makes it easy to pick up the clay.
Mixing the clay is a very physically demanding process!
Inside the pottery shed, potters are busy sculpting and moulding the clay.
One man can make about 50 medium sized pots in one day.
The pots are all fired on weekends in this traditional pit.
The finished pots are taken to be sold at local tribal markets.
Chandoori Sai luxury guesthouse is located in the potters village and the owner employed the potters to make all the terracotta floor tiles, roof tiles, and pots. Many of the tribal village women also work at the guesthouse. chandoorisai.com
Guests are welcome to wander around the village and interact with people. There’s also a small hill nearby with panoramic mountain views.
