@cccusbzblr @IndiaPostOffice @cbic_india @IndianCustoms Visited the Bangalore Sub Foreign post office today to find out why a parcel was stuck for more than 50 days when it was already in India.🇮🇳 At the risk of sounding like BuzzFeed, what I discovered really shocked myself. To be clear, the customs officials truly wanted to help.
@cccusbzblr @IndiaPostOffice @cbic_india @IndianCustoms 1. None of the customer care numbers listed by @cccusbzblr work. One of the guys there admitted that the phone doesn't work. The customs official there, after our conversation, said he's happy to give his phone number but I'd rather wait.
@cccusbzblr @IndiaPostOffice @cbic_india @IndianCustoms 2. They are SEVERELY understaffed. 5 people have to go through 8000 parcels. That is 1600 parcels in an 8-9 hour shift per person? How is this humanly possible? They had 3 staffs on deputation recently to help, but these three don't turn up and there's nothing they can do.
@cccusbzblr @IndiaPostOffice @cbic_india @IndianCustoms 3. One of the customs official had a broken keyboard. He'd requested for them to fix or replace it but there was no action. He then had to buy a new keyboard for himself!
4. Not to mention the arrogance and bossy nature of the higher officials who don't sign documents on time.
@cccusbzblr @IndiaPostOffice @cbic_india @IndianCustoms 5. Oh, and Fun fact- the world's largest postal service is entirely manual. You'd think that they have a system in place, although not efficient, but no!
6. They said the volume of parcels have been unusually high since the last month and they're barely able to deal with this.
@cccusbzblr @IndiaPostOffice @cbic_india @IndianCustoms 7. Customers coming from far away places like Chikmagalur complain about the lack of response over phone and email that they have to visit in person to get an update, each time spending over Rs.1000. At this point, they've spent more than the customs duty for the item.
@cccusbzblr @IndiaPostOffice @cbic_india @IndianCustoms Asked the officials how customers can be of help and they said that this Digital India shouldn't just be a mindset change but a behavioral change for the higher officials. Nothing customers can do apart from raising formal complaints.
@cccusbzblr @IndiaPostOffice @cbic_india @IndianCustoms So hoping to get some acknowledgement for this situation on @PMOIndia's favourite platform. Couple of years ago if you'd asked me if a tweet was a 'formal' complaint, I'd have laughed at you. But hey, here we are. 🤷‍♂️
