1/ Tim Russert had "Perfect" Cholesterol numbers. 58yrs old and doing everything his docs told him to avoid a HA. Taking a statin, meds to lower BP, and riding an exercise bike every day. His total cholesterol was just 105 ! and yet his very first HA was fatal.
2/ His A1c was normal and on paper he was the epitome of perfect health. We now know Russert had CAD and his doc didn't know how severe it was. Even if he had, the likely treatment would have been an even higher dose statin and a low fat diet.
3/ Russert's health was not only made worse by modern medicine, but his death was most likely preventable. His high trigs resulted in low TC and LDL-C and very high ApoB and LDL-p, paradoxically raising CVD risk by dropping LDL-C.
4/ He had a lot of atherosclerotic plaque that ruptured, leading to a Myocardial Infarction. Russert was like so many insulin resistant or T2D's - a dead man walking.
