The next major battle for the future of IT which will reshape the tech landscape (winners and losers) will take place around the spoken word - conversational programming - not yet, but soon. Industrialisation is pegged to start happening sometime around 2020 - 2023 ->
... for the majority of those who consider themselves leading technology users, you won't really notice this until 2030-2035 ... for those more traditional industries, it won't impact until 2045-2060. But the battle is starting soon for that future.
Conversational programming exists in the stack above serverless and AI ... it's a higher order system. Messing around with lower order components - virtualisation, containers etc will soon become antiquated. But remember, the last punch card system was still in operation in 2012.
It's perfectly possible that in 2040, you'll see one company announcing a large multi billion dollar effort to convert to using containers whilst the majority of the market is adopting conversational programming. The old - "Containers? That's what my grandparents did"
