5 (UN)CONVENTIONAL TIPS TO KICKSTART #FPL SEASON 2019/20 - thread

Just what nobody asked for, another thread on tips before the start of the season, huh? Well, take it less as a tips post and more as a I-need-to-remind-myself-where-I-usually-f***-up kind of post. 😜 (Post #1)
For the next 5 days, I will be posting one tip every day that helps me steer away from trouble (for the most part). I have these 5 on repeat. Otherwise, the season will end up in tears before it even starts. So, here it goes - tip #1. (Post #2)
TIP #1

START STRONG.

I know, what a stupid thing to say, right? But hear me out. It's so hard to claw your way back after a poor start to the season, isn't it? We've all been there - thinking we are smarter than everyone else & trying to outsmart everyone. (1/3)
Don't. Start smart. Don't overthink it at the beginning of the season. If there are players with high ownership, own them. Not having the likes of Salah or Sterling or whoever, will hurt you if they score big. Play safe at the beginning and there is a high probability that (2/3)
...your rank will be a decent one after GW5. That's when you can start playing "your" game. By that time, the unknowns (new signings, promoted teams) will have been revealed - will they prosper or fail. Your choice though. 😎
TIP #2

DON'T PISS AGAINST THE WIND.

Sure, differentials are a great thing (it was the lucky differentials that enabled me to finish 15th overall once upon a time), but loading up on them form the get-go is playing with fire. While you might think that having the... (1/3)
..."proven" differentials from abroad (think Pepe for instance) will propel you up the rankings, it is a recipe for disaster. You might get away with it, heck, you might even get a couple of goals, but smart money is on you getting burnt. While I will always go for... (2/3)
...differentials, start with one or max 2. Usually, it's enough. You will anyway have to find proper differentials if you fall behind from the get-go. (3/3)
TIP #3

LEAVE YOUR ALLEGIANCE AT HOME.

It doesn't matter if you are a die-hard fan of any #EPL club - in #FPL you have to be a fan of points. And while it might hurt as a MUN fan to have 3 MCI and LIV players on your team (or captaining them), it's the right thing to do. (1/3)
And just wishing that your team will upset the big guys will not necessarily make it happen. Forget who you root for. Captain the obvious choices, even if it's against your team. If they fail to deliver and your team wins, you'll still have something to celebrate for. (2/3)
If they do deliver, you have that to look forward to as you drown your sorrows in a pint or two... (3/3)
