There is more. There was an “ugly fight” over Dem Rep. Lucy McBath, who tragically lost a child to a gun death. The ugliness appears to lay 100% on the other side-a body representing House Republicans-which accused her of trying to “make a quick buck” for critiquing the GOP. /3

ICYMI, my piece on how the popular ethic of the New Deal became the punchline of a joke first told in the 1970s that later became associated with Ronald Reagan's presidency. /1
In 1976, Senator Edmund Muskie took a genre--the "three lies" or "big lie" joke--that had highlighted interpersonal weaknesses ("the check is in the mail," "Of course, I'll still respect you in the morning.") and turned it into a spoof of government itself. /2
In Muskie's hands, in addition to mocking or reinforcing personal foibles, a new element was added: He suggested that the government was as unreliable in its duties to citizens as the person who told white lies to avoid ethical scrutiny. /3

I'm grateful to @ed_kilgore for his engagement with and critique of my @madebyhistory piece on the ways in which the anti-Goldwater GOPers in 1964 presaged in critical ways the "Never Trumpers." In this thread, I'd like to offer a brief response. /1
@ed_kilgore @madebyhistory First, I'll concede that the analogy between 1964 and 2016 is imperfect and in a longer piece I would have delved into the differences. I agree also that Goldwater's candidacy was, as Ed says, DOA. /2
@ed_kilgore @madebyhistory However, we should remember that the vast majority of pundits and politicians, including those that supported him, thought that Donald Trump would lose in 2016. His victory was a surprise to many people, including apparently Trump himself./3

The Poway synagogue shooter said he hated Jews for their role in "cultural Marxism". So, who spread the conspiracy theory concerning "cultural Marxism", which claims it's a Jewish conspiracy against Western Civilization?

Who popularized that? Donald Trump knows the man...
2) I revisit this every few months, when a new act of foreign or domestic terrorism happens and the perpetrator cites "cultural Marxism" as a reason. Back in '016 I wrote this piece which listed some of the then-current examples. 4thgenwar.wordpress.com/2016/07/11/tru… There are many more now.

#New PA cong. map increases D chance of winning the House majority by 4%. They only need a 6.8% generic ballot margin now (down from 7.7) to be favored.

Diff. will be closer to 10% in Nov when uncertainty from polls is ⬇️. Redraw is a very big deal.

One major reason the new PA map is such a big gain for Democrats is that it solidifies, not just tips, PA districts in Philly burbs. Also creates one additional vulnerable R district. (Easily seen in this map made by @JMilesColeman)
My forecasting model will have new PA map in the near future. This is not just a simple switch; it’s a coding redesign, restructuring of input, & drawing new geographic files. Takes a while (for me, a student).
