Good to see @burke_jason and @guardian looking into the drone wars in Libya. More attention needs to be focused on the differences in technology, strategy, targets and ethics (yes lethal drone ethics) between GNA and LNA in what is becoming a proxy war. theguardian.com/world/2019/aug…
@burke_jason @guardian It's not clear to me how a laser with 500 meter range and "shoot down" a drone that is flying at 5000 feet or deter a 600mph+ laser guided missile. If you look at where the drone was hit that seems more like a traditional weapon. armyrecognition.com/weapons_defenc…
Right now they can scramble the laser guidance or jam signals. but there is no magic ray gun deployed in Libya. The Wing Loong and Turkish drones puts out a strong radio signal and a heat signature both easy to target with 60's-era SAMs. dailysabah.com/defense/2019/0…
The question is whether China has surpassed or perhaps will surpass the US in any drone technology or is tagging as they steal er, copy deas and resell them cheaply. So far no indication of any superior inventions other than embracing the swarm strategy. chinapower.csis.org/china-drones-u…
