Saluting the workers of the world this Labor Day, especially those _having_ to work today.
They accumulate wealth on your backs and all their rhetoric about law and order is primarily so they can keep doing that. Workers are the creators of value and workers should write the laws.
The new labor movement — all the unionization happening lately — especially among people who never thought themselves in need of a union? That's the answer. You want an end to power imbalances? To income disparity? to the rape of this planet for profit? UNION.
Legacy? The inter-generational accumulation and preservation of wealth doesn't mean ANYTHING unless you're using it to lift up those who did that work. Attempt to preserve it if you must but know that the actual creators of all that value are coming for it.
The same people who are willing to exploit the earth as a natural resource are the ones who are willing to exploit their fellow human beings as one. The end of environmental exploitation is inextricably linked to the end of worker exploitation.
Bless the workers of California especially today, the most visited state in the union, where a third of our population -= PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT BORN HERE and who are the kindest and best and hardest working people I know.
California tech workers should look to learn from the already unionized manufacturing, hospitality, and agriculture workers in our state and beyond. They have a lot to teach you. Just b/c you have a college degree doesn't mean you aren't being exploited.
Tech workers may not need anyone to bargain on behalf of their income but the entire industry needs an ethical overhaul & you know it. Form an ethical union. The U.S. government is a joke right now. Tech has SO much power. Wield the power you have. Form a union.
