Responding to Boris Johnson's claim progress is being made in Brexit talks, an EU Commission spokeswoman says: 'We are progressively making progress in pursuing the talks because we’re meeting now more often, but I won’t go into any substance because these are technical talks.'

Commission declining to put the boot into the PM. Spokes says there's 'progress on process' in terms of a structure for talks. 'I can’t report any concrete proposals having been made that we’ve seen. We’re not insisting now on having anything on paper, it can be digital as well.'
A wonderfully bonkers midday exchange on Brexit. In the end the Commission's chief spokeswoman is reduced to declaring: 'I cannot report any such scribbling on cigarette packs.'
