Enslaving university and college students to debt is a sweet deal for businesses because this is an educated population which is likely to earn a higher income. It also eases GoK surveillance of educated citizens @AmnestyKenya @thekhrc
The HELB smart card is government blackmail. Instead or providing education as a human right, GoK is making education conditional on people being entered into a database that companies have access to @thekhrc @AmnestyKenya #hudumanamba
Incidentally, data of minors is already being fed into databases with EMIS. Some kids were signed up for #hudumanamba without their parents' knowledge. Worse, is that #competencybasedcurriculum is requiring kids to send intimate data to schools as homework @thekhrc @AmnestyKenya
Kids are being required to send digital photos of themselves eating and doing other mundane tasks. There is no policy or law on how that data is handled or where it will go. Even #hudumabill2019 is silent on sale of data. @thekhrc @AmnestyKenya
You will remember the threats of @DCI_Kenya against our children, telling them that what they do in school will make them criminalized for life, including denial of jobs and credit @AmnestyKenya @thekhrc
Now the actions of 18 to 20 year olds will follow them for life with the @HELBpage smart card. And that is unfair because the rich who won't study in unis will be able to become presidents, whether they are drunks or suspects of crimes against humanity @thekhrc @AmnestyKenya
The government is essentially turning the education system into a plantation. You get an education, you get signed into debt and surveillance. This is abuse of our INALIENABLE rights to privacy and to education @AmnestyKenya @thekhrc
