I’d say that reporters should ask Sanders himself what he thinks about his staff’s actions, but I don’t think there are few who care enough about Bernie’s candidacy to ask.

If no political reporter does it, maybe someone who writes about social media will.
Four years ago Bernie’s campaign did some things poorly, but they did other things quite well. What I find remarkable this time is aspects of the campaign we can tentatively assess—can’t yet talk much about field, paid media, etc—are no better than 2015-2016, & usually worse…
A problem for Bernie compared to 2016 is the difference btwn a crowded field & a binary vote for or against Hillary (which was a lot of Bernie’s votes). I’ve no reason to think his online fundraising operation isn’t performing at the same level as 2016, but they probably…
…need to come up with some innovations & improvements given the competition for funds this time.

Policy, eh, can’t say, given that he had four years to hone new policies, but also given that he by all appearances resists anything that requires him to change. Field…
…surelynis having a hatred time, again, bc of the competition, in this case talent & experience. But bc of allegations of sexual discrimination & misconduct Bernie also had to cut ties w several of his senior field operatives from 2016

Bernie had a base, a database…
…and the experience of 2016 to inform decisions on how to approach this campaign differently. But his base is not as big as he and his true believers thought, & he’s doing little to expand beyond the 15%-18% or so of the Dem primary electorate that he currently has. His…
…database seems to be getting him a good haul, but because of the competition & by the campaign unchanged since 2016, it’s unlikely to grow from what it currently is (which, again, is pretty good). And as for learning from 2016, looks like instead of making improvements, he’s…
…dug in & refusing to adapt to his competition and to go where the electorate is. And if his less-visible hires are 1/4 as bad as the comms staff, his campaign will be a well-funded disaster

Bernie had maybe a 5% chance of getting the nomination last time, but it became…
…pretty much 0 chance when he didn’t win Iowa. But when he won Michigan—in part by outspending 2-1 the Clinton campaign, which was spreading money around in the five big states the following week, all of which she won—after Michigan, per reports at the time, he thought he…
…could win the nomination. I think that was bad analysis, and would not suggest a keen understanding of strategic changes to do well in 2020. But instead of making changes, Bernie has a team around him who will not compensate for his weaknesses, but will accentuate them.
