SCOOP: Gregory Cheadle, the man President Trump once called “my African American,” is leaving the Republican party & running for Congress as an independent.

He says Trump has a “white superiority complex" and the party is pursing a "pro-white" agenda.

The final straw for Cheadle came when he watched Republicans defend Trump’s tweets telling four congresswomen to go back to their countries as well as defend Trump’s attacks on Rep. Cummings and Baltimore. "I thought this is a classic case of whites not seeing racism," he said.
“Pres. Trump is a rich guy who is mired in white privilege to the extreme,” said Cheadle who has unsuccessfully run for Congress four times. “Republicans are too sheepish to call him out on anything and they are afraid of losing their positions and losing any power themselves.”
Cheadle said people who think he waited too long to leave the Republican party are “correct.” He said he held out hope that Republicans would move to work on challenges specifically facing African Americans. “To stay on this ship now, as a black Republican, I couldn’t do it.”
Cheadle said he wouldn’t use the term “racist” to describe Trump but believes he has a “white superiority complex.”

He is especially unhappy with Trump's judicial nominations.

“When you look at his appointments for the bench: White, white, white, white white, white, white."
NEW: I asked President Trump about Gregory Cheadle, the man he called “my African American,” leaving the Republican Party. Trump said, “I have tremendous African American support. I am at my all time high. I don’t think I’ve ever had the support I have now.“
My follow up Q to Trump: Is Cheadle wrong to say you’re pursuing a pro-White agenda?

Trump: I think this. It’s very simple. We’ve had the best numbers we’ve ever had for African Americans in terms of employment and unemployment. So I think we’re going to do very well.
President Trump also said he didn’t know what incident or man I was talking about. When I explained Gregory Cheadle is the man he called “my African American” at a California rally in 2016, Trump repeated that he believes he has great support among black voters.
