The House already approved $600 million to update and secure our elections—now we need the Senate to take action and #SecureOurVote.

Here's why (THREAD):

Russia targeted election systems in all 50 states in 2016. Evidence suggests that no votes or registration data were changed—but that hackers were in position to do so.

We cannot afford to take that chance again.

121 election officials in 31 states have said they need to upgrade their voting machines to run a secure and accurate election in 2020.

Only 1/3 of them said they had the funding to do so.

And on the subject of voting machines, 40 states currently use machines that are more than a decade old—and 45 use voting machines that aren't even manufactured anymore.

Old machines without modern safeguards pose a serious threat for voters.

In 2020, the threats to our democracy will continue to grow—and it's not just Russia we have to worry about.

Iran, Saudi Arabia, & China are already targeting American voters, and it's impossible to know if they may target our future elections.

So what can $600 million do to fix our elections? For starters, it could:

💵Provide resources to the states to enhance voting system security & buy new machines

📋Mandate risk limiting audits

🗳Require voter-verifiable paper ballots instead of electronic-only voting machines.
