Johnson admitted to Juncker on Monday that his plan to replace backstop with all-Ireland agri-food zone had holes in it and needed more work
Juncker/Barnier reported back to diplomats that during lunch on Monday that he expressed "genuine surprise” to Frost that all-Ireland agri-food zone “wouldn't obviate the need for customs checks”
Johnson said to have left meeting “realising it is incomplete”. One source said: “It told us that Frost is here with a mandate to fix it”
He must assuage European “fears of their companies and parliaments being undercut and having no means to respond”

The question for the EU: UK moves to give a special/unique economic status to territory of NI (in terms of barriers to UK internal market on SPS+) because of GFA, so will it?
In previous negotiations the EU has insisted on regulatory alignment on all industrial goods regulations, an enforcement role for European Court of Justice and Northern Ireland’s inclusion it customs territory, in terms of collecting duties such as VAT
Many European governments struggle to collect VAT, with half the EU’s 28 member states, including the UK, recording a “gap” between expected revenue and collected duties of over 10 per cent

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Johnson is any closer to agreeing a #Brexit deal that can get through Parliament than Theresa May was. A few key points:
1. The deal (the Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration) is exactly the same as it was when it was agreed almost a year ago. Every word, comma, semi-colon, & full stop is the same.

Apparently it’s a ‘customs arrangement til 2022 election...and then may the best team win on fight for hard/soft Brexit.

If this gets the Withdrawal Agreement over the line, Customs is a pretty moot question until 2022 because we’re in a standstill transition arrangement...it could in theory end earlier But..../2
If the U.K. has passed the Withdrawal Agreement it will also have agreed to the Irish backstop - no hard border/no additional infrastructure and related checks and controls.

Which means hard Brexit advocates MUST fix this issue as part of trade/future talks. /3

A regular device from brexiters is to say that #PeoplesVote supporters think Leave voters were stupid

It's true that there were very many incredibly, boneshakingly dense Brexiters, but they were leading, not following

Some examples
2) Melanie Philips is a regular pro #Brexit columnist, arguing for a tough line on the EU.

This is her finding out *only last night* that we represent 10% of the EUs total exports compared to 45% of ours going to the EU

Her confused look is remarkable

3) David Davis, Brexit secretary and former EU minister, believed *even after the referendum* that we could strike illegal individual deals with Germany, France etc, something utterly forbidden under EU law

This was the basis of his Leave position

1. I've seen a number of whiny article from po-faced remainers saying "I thought we were beyond [insert self-righteous PC wibble] - what happened to my country - the country of the 2012 London Olympics? My progressive haven!" Well, guess what...
2. The London Olympics was pretty much the peak of the "liberal" regime - and the opening ceremony with its sycophantic NHS worship was a giant facade on a regime that was rotting on the inside. Everything about politics in that era was facadism.
3. Even those much vaunted "progressive attitudes" were more a testament to how effectively censored the public were. That "progressive" era was a grotesque self-deception underpinned by the cosh of political correctness.
