My big takeaway from the Justin Trudeau controversy: if you're the leader of a Western democracy who has starred in 50 or 60 minstrel shows, it's probably best to get that out before the media twists it all out of proportion
I have attended approximately 1700 costumed college beer bash bacchanals in my life, all in the pre-woke Stone Ages, and never once did I, or anyone I have ever seen, decide it was cool and/or funny to do Amos & Andy shtick
but if photos of my college costume party choices emerge and offend any ancient Romans, I truly apologize
Seriously though, who tf thinks it was normal to go to a school costume party in blackface in 1961, let alone 2001?
AYFKM? Unless you're Sons of the Confederacy U Class of '57, I can't imagine a campus where this would be considered acceptable
Mind you, we're not talking about a 90 year old retired Alabama insurance agent, we're talking about a 46 year old Prime Minister of Canada.
But, in Justin Trudeau's defense, he seems too genuinely dimwitted to have understood any of this
By golly, it's a red letter day for media coining new toned-down euphemisms for "blackface"
By the time the NY Times gets around to mentioning this it will become "bronzer"
Let the frantic, desperate rehabilitation campaign BEGIN
I predict, by the end of the day, this will become a "teaching moment" requiring mandatory sensitivity training for all Canadians, with the exception of Justin Trudeau
For my next prediction <gazes into crystal ball> I foresee the sun rising in the East tomorrow morning
