Asked Matt Gaetz about concerns re Trump making promise to foreign leader/whistleblower matter: “Sometimes this town really is a lot like kindergarten. I think there are people in the intelligence community and other parts of our government who just have it out for the president”
Gaetz added: “I don’t have any worries about the president. I understand how he talks and the colloquial way he talks.”
Asked if he needed to assess the complaint himself, he said: “I’ve already assessed for myself how the president interacts with foreign dignitaries and leaders and I'm pretty impressed by the job he does for us.”
Other Republicans also had little concern. Ted Yoho told me “no” when he was asked if he had any concerns about Trump making a promise to a foreign leader that drove whistleblower complaint
And GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy turned questions around about whistleblower: “He could have come to Congress. Who is the whistleblower. Is he still working? Because I don’t know anything about him. I’ve heard rumors its somebody who left. Why did he leave? And now this comes up.”
