Partisan working in conservative political media is horrified to learn that rt-wing media has tremendous power to determine what their low-info, partisan audience thinks is true. Hard to tell if a statement like this is intentionally deceptive, naive, or just stupid.
I mean...BIRTHERISM! In 2015 43% of Republicans thought Obama was a Muslim. Come on, man...you can't possibly be this dumb.

Not only was Linda Tripp's testimony second hand. But also, she was prodded into recording her phone calls with Monica Lewinsky by Lucianne Goldberg, a long-time right wing hack whose son edited the National Review for many years.
Lucianne's Wikipedia page gives you a good sense of the sort of "objective" and highly principled journalistic work with which she'd been involved since the early 70s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucianne_…

In trying to understand why the GOP acts as it does, most historians would suggest that it's generally best to apply Yoakam's Razor.
I mean...an LA millionaire in a cowboy hat singing these words is only a few steps removed from an NYC billionaire "man of the people" complaining about the removal of confederate statues, no?
It's worth noting that Yoakam grew up in that most Southern of places....Columbus, Ohio.

Regardless of Yoakam's intentions when he wrote that song in the 80s, I think there's little doubt how most of the 7 million people who've viewed that video would interpret the song.

Schrader is one of the more conservative Democrats in the House. He won handily in 2018 against a candidate whose Wikipedia page is quite a trip...especially if you scroll down toward the end. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Call…
Given that the Oregon GOP is now only slightly to the left of George Lincoln Rockwell, it would appear that Schrader is one of the folks who's ripe for a primary challenger to his left.

A longish thread about trying to explain the differences in party support - primarily Labour - in the polls.
It is often very difficult to get to the bottom of the differences between polls. There is rarely one big, easy simple answer, it's normally a bit of lots of little, different to explain things. Hence stupid & simple explanations prosper.
One current cause seems to be different approaches to past vote weighting. Most pollsters* weight by how people voted at the last election (ensuring that the sample has 44% people who voted Conservative in 2017, 41% Labour in 2017 and so on)

The professional politicians have done an excellent job of splitting up the issues to keep the citizens fighting with each other so we don’t focus on the fact that they are the problem, not us.
The professional wrestling promoters know that good fighting evil and prompting the audience to be involved in the action will keep people engaged. Our career politicians know it, too.

Without a crisis to engage the public, the career politician is less significant.
