Tennessee’s appointed Attorney General Herbert Slatery is trying to undo an agreement that removed Abu-Ali Abdur’Rahman from death row. The agreement was negotiated between defense attorneys and elected DA Glenn Funk before it was approved by elected Judge Monte Watkins.
DA Glenn Funk acknowledged that there was racial discrimination in jury selection and prosecutorial misconduct at Abu-Ali Abdur’Rahman’s original trial. AG Herbert Slatery is trying to put a black man back on death row despite confirmed racial discrimination and misconduct.
Appointed AG Herbert Slatery, who is not accountable to voters, is trying to undo an agreement negotiated by elected DA Glenn Funk and approved by elected Judge Monte Watkins. See the problem there?

#RodneyReed's attorneys just filed a motion asking a Bastrop County judge to cancel Rodney's November 20th execution date. The motion raises two new pieces of evidence that implicate Jimmy Fennell, the victim's fiancé at the time of her death, as the real killer.
Reminder: #RodneyReed was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Stacey Stites. The evidence comprehensively shows that Rodney is innocent and implicates Fennell as the real killer. The prosecution's case against Rodney is "medically and scientifically impossible."
First piece of new evidence: An insurance salesperson recently signed a sworn affidavit saying that Jimmy Fennell threatened to kill Stacey Stites while they were purchasing a life insurance policy.

This is a truly reprehensible decision by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. The court's majority denies justice not only for Paul Storey but also for the victim, Jonas Cherry, and his parents. texastribune.org/2019/10/02/pau…
Paul Storey was convicted of killing Jonas Cherry in 2008. Jonas Cherry's parents repeatedly told prosecutors that they did not want the death penalty. The prosecutor lied to the jury and said that all of Jonas's family members supported a death sentence.
Jonas Cherry's parents, Glenn and Judith, reiterated their opposition to Paul Storey's execution in 2017: "As a result of Jonas' death, we do not want to see another family having to suffer through losing a child and family member."

Today is International #WrongfulConvictionDay.

Any wrongful conviction is a human tragedy. It means time spent in jail for something you did not do. It means a loss of reputation. It means a loss of connection to your web of human fellowship.
A wrongful conviction means the shrinking of your future. It means a diminishment of your time on this earth. When that wrongful conviction leads to a death sentence, the consequences are even more dire.
There have been at least 166 death row exonerations – a dramatically conservative estimate. I cry for the torture, the friendship loss, the family loss, the life-loss, that these people have endured.

06/01/2019 - 78 years ago today, the longest-serving #UnitedStates #President, #Franklin D. #Roosevelt (#FDR) addressed the 77th #Congress with his "#Four #Freedoms" speech with the intent to shift #US #foreign #policy from that of #neutrality to #interventionist.
#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.

⚡️It’s certainly not a good look for Republicans less than 3 weeks from the November Election.

▶️Neither is talking about separating more children from their parents and putting them in cages
▶️Neither is talking about stripping Social Security & Medicare programs
▶️Neither is protecting the murderers of a respected journalist, then using money as the reason and inflating the numbers while you’re doing it
