Our @GovWhitmer is protecting insurance profits again.

This rule change cuts the number of counselors who can treat Michigan mental health patients.

That saves Medicaid dollars and Blue Cross Blue Shield profits, at the expense of patients' health.

Rep. Schiff's HR4192 targets anyone who "obstructs, delays, or affects interstate or foreign commerce" or uses "any facility of interstate or foreign commerce" to "influence the policy of a government" (ANY government) and creates a "risk" to a person or property.

Michigan is shamelessly attempting to design Medicaid work requirements to disproportionately burden Black beneficiaries. Whether or not this policy is ultimately implemented, please know that it points to larger patterns in the experiences of Black Medicaid beneficiaries.
A Black woman I interviewed in Michigan 5 yrs ago: “if you’re white & you have Medicaid…you are looked upon with more sympathy...it's ‘she’s going through a hard time right now'…If it’s us…then we’re looking for a hand out…& we are treated as such”
Black #Medicaid beneficiaries know exactly what the deal is b/c their experiences inform them. Policies like we are seeing in MI right now fit into a larger set of processes that ultimately undermine equality & democratic citizenship, especially 4 Black folk #FragmentedDemocracy
