I suspect this will cause a lot of excitement today but end with little more than a whimper.

Stewart voted for Brexit. Three times. He still wants a deal.

He now wants to be Mayor of London.

This will damage Shaun Bailey’s campaign a bit but in the current climate, the chances of a Conservative winning London are extremely slim anyway. Many talk of Boris Johnson’s electoral stardust in winning the city. Maybe- but he wouldn’t win now.
Also, difficult to see what Stewart’s brand of moderate centrism finds as its enemy in the London race. There’s no Johnson boogy man to run against. Khan is hardly an extreme Corbynista. What exactly does he run on?

Whilst the govt front bench clings to idea that we will leave on Oct 31st come what may, Brussels source tells me debate in EU “shifting to parameters of an extension” ie how long it should be. Opinion ranges between January 31st to the end of June.
“They don’t want rolling extensions”, so June has advantages, source tells me. Beyond that though and you get into MFF (new EU budget round) so that is upper limit for the moment.
Tory backbenches would go apoplectic over extension to June. They would demand election and possibly want to fight it on unilateral withdrawal. But of course election not in their gift. June timescale would be golden window for those who want second ref...

Keir Starmer urgent question now on publication of legal text for govt’s Brexit proposals.
James Dudderidge, Brexit minister: “the Legal text (which we have sent to the Commission) will only be published when we think it will assist the negotiations.”
Starmer asks if full legal text tallies with the PM’s assertion that there would be no checks at or near the border, “or at any other place”. Varadkar has implied legal text says otherwise, so we need to see full doc, says Lab.

Bit of a briefing war developing over opp meeting. Lib Dems say Corbyn said that only he could lead an alt govt. Senior LD source tells my colleague @KateEMcCann: "Their total unwillingness to work with anyone else makes the Lab Party the biggest barrier to stopping no deal."
@KateEMcCann Smaller parties tell me that the meeting was positive though, with focus on how the Benn Act must be adhered to. I detect some frustration at LD briefing.
@KateEMcCann For example, a Plaid Cymru source tells me: "It's not about who, but about how we stop a disastrous crash-out Brexit. This is about policies not personalities."

1. The biggest problem with the #Brexit is a failure to separate the issues from the personalities. The issues are more complex than the average pundit is capable of absorbing - especially when they inhabit the Westminster bubble. (thread)
2. What we find is that the level of EU understanding is pitiful even among the think tanks who are supposed to be on top of these matters. Worse still are the populist pudnits who bang the drum for Brexit but make zero effort to understand the process.
3. The Leave Alliance would be a lot more popular if we simply simply churned out pleasing populist messages but if we want to get the best from Brexit then we have to look at the situation as it is rather than how we would wish it to be.

Jaguar Land Rover recently agreed 2 build a new plant in Slovakia with EU grant, owned by Tata, same company who trashed our steel industry & emptied workers pension funds.

1) Thread - All Brexits are bad and what we voted for
It's often said by brexiters that "it's not all about economics"
However, the *actual* Leave campaign was almost wholly about economic arguments

With the leak of this 2-8% report those arguments are now trashed
2) We seem to have forgotten this however economics played a huge part in the Vote Leave campaign, making up over 2/3rds of the primary arguements. The clear message was we would at the least be no worse off and at best much better off. 4 of the 6 below state this clearly
3) & the fact is voters believed we would be no worse off. People prioritized immigration certainly, but against a backdrop of there being no consequences from Brexit - few are prepared to actually pay for ending FoM
