Who would've thought a film shot on some mobile phones would take your breath away. #MidnightTraveler is astonishing, heart grabbing, without one dull minute. It's the story of an Afghan refugee family on the run to safety over three years, which they filmed on their own phones.
You can't help feel rage when you see the two little girls trying to play with the soccer ball within what is essentially a maximum-security prison of high concrete walls and barbed wire In Hungary.
But it's not all outrage. The film records the dark humor, danger & boredom of life on the run. The little girls sing & play games in a smuggler's taxi with their dad locked in the trunk for safety as they pass through Taliban territory where dad has a death sentence on his head.
The film gave me an idea: Instead of all those films of refugees on our border shot with long lenses and night vision from a distance, why not hand out 50 cell phones to Hondurans so they can record their own journey day by day? #MidnightTraveler #BorderWall #TrumpWall
Then, by time they get to Trump's #BorderWall, they will have become real people we've come to know, just like the Fazili family of Afghanistan, and not just victims, nameless bit players in America's political psycho drama. #immigration #refugees #TrumpWall
