2/ in Syria (and I noticed this at the time) was when Syrian Tiger Forces moved rapidly east after the liberation of Aleppo city from AlQaeda and cut off Turkish-backed forces at al-Bab, thereby cutting Turkey-ISIS supplies lines (and oil sales). It was very very close timing.
3/ after cutting off Turkish-backed jihadis at al-Bab (in the north), the Syrian Tiger Forces proceeded south along Euphrates and liberated Deir ez-Zor city. The demise of ISIS came quite rapidly after cutting supply lines from Turkey.
4/ here's a tweet from Jan 31, 2017 where I took notice of the race between Syria and Turkey for control of al-Bab. Turkey ended up in control of city, but Syria got control of highway leading to Euphrates. 
5/ here's another tweet from Feb 27, 2017 one hour after Syria cut off supply line between ISIS and Turkey, in which I observed that this was likely a transformative moment in battle against ISIS.
6/ one more contemporary tweet from Mar 9, 2017 observing sea-change in war against ISIS when supply lines between ISIS and Turkey were cut off
7/ in the battle against ISIS in Syria, Syrian govt (plus Iran and Russia) played greater role than US and Kurds. This is concealed by US media.
8/ only way to unwind mess is reconciliation between Kurds and Syrian govt, and keeping Turkey in Turkey. If US were not so committed to balkanization of Syria (long desired by Israel and neocons), this could be accomplished in about 5 minutes. And might well happen despite US
