THREAD: NEC panel accused of blackballing left slate candidates in the selection process to replace 'squatter' Enfield North MP Joan Ryan, against the clearly expressed choice of local CLP members
Angry Labour members have condemned the decision as a 'stitch-up', with several saying the same thing is happening in other constituencies, where left candidates have been rejected for the longlist by the NEC despite having local grassroots support
One of those left off the longlist, Enfield North PPC and Vice-Chair of the CLP, Ed Poole, has vowed to take the matter further and demand explanations for the apparent sidelining of members' preferred candidates
He might even be able to count on the support of outgoing 'Labour' MP John Mann, who yesterday described the NEC's intervention in the Bassetlaw selection as 'Stalinist'. But then again, maybe not...
The Enfield North situation has led to renewed condemnation of the 'parachute' method of imposing candidates on a CLP without their agreement - widespread under the Blair administration...
Members have called on Labour General Secretary Jennie Formby to launch an immediate investigation into the decisions being made by the NEC panel - including the identity of the panel members
