I've been saying that the opposition should focus their fire on Johnson's Brexit deal. It has received little scrutiny (though @StevePeers analysis is excellent). Three points on just how little it gets Brexit done. 1/
First, it contains a transition period to the end of 2020. Transition is the full application of EU rules; but without representation. Which some have termed vassalage. 2/
This transition period can be extended (to end 2021 or 2022). The proposed WAB restricted Parliament's role in the extension of transition process. 3/
Second, it keeps NI in the EU customs union until at least 2026, with an Irish Sea border. No NI MPs support the deal. 4/
And third, post-transition, and for GB, there is just some gesturing towards a free trade deal. The withdrawal agreement is the easy bit. The future relationship negotiations will be far more difficult. 5/
The trade-offs between standard-setting autonomy and market access, which have been wished away in the debate so far, will have to be confronted. 6/
The next phase will be not easy. Brexit will continue to dominate the national debate. It will not, by any stretch, be 'done'. 7/7
