In African culture, when sperm meets egg and a zygote has formed. Ithongo resides with both man and woman involved in the creation. So when there is loss whether it be by choice or accidental - cleansing must take place for both parties.
When one loses a life which they were responsible for creating then there is spiritual tainting and unrest. This tainting is contagious and can be passed onto the next person you decide to sleep with. Additionally, it can also be the reason why no others kids come your way.
Again, this is for both man and woman. Both need to be cleansed. Cleansing is done with a goat, its blood, bowel contents and other herbs and medicines. Sometimes this is not enough and abadala may require you to give a name to the child.
This process gets more a little complicated when twins are involved. I’ll cover twins in a separate thread.
See here is what happens. Man or woman loses/aborts a child. Breaks up with that person and now meets a new one without having cleansed. Your new partner is exposed to spiritual tainting. And even if you fall pregnant (man/woman) the new child will be born with this same taint.
That is why cleansing is so important. Because you don’t know what you’re exposed to. And if you’re not going to do it for yourself then do it for your future children and partner.
We need to forget this idea that women who have aborted or have had a miscarriage or less worthy and stop degrading them. It took two humans to make the child.
I’d encourage all of you to be honest with your partners. Tell them about what happened in the past and deal with it consciously together so that your future can be brighter as a family.
We at Umsamo Institute offer such services of cleansing. But I must Be honest in that the consequences of loss of Life varies. There is no set way. I cannot say for sure what will happen if you go uncleansed.
I know it’s a hard conversation for people to have, especially young couples. But have them. Be honest and vulnerable. To those who are still young and still in school, speak to your parents. If not them, an aunt or uncle. It’s the first step to healing.
You are not the first nor will you be the last person to go through this. Being human doesn’t mean being perfect. But rather dealing and faces the consequences of our actions.
